Quiet City

When Britt returns to Quiet City, he finds a once-violent frontier town growing into a settled community but its old sheriff still expects the people to behave as they did years before. After Pike kills rancher Jason Norton in a cattle dispute, Britt helps the sheriff capture him alive, while the sheriff worries that Jason's brother and an angry crowd will lynch the prisoner. Instead the townspeople insist that Pike receive a fair trial and let the courts punish him. Britt points out that Quiet City has grown up largely because its sheriff spent years teaching people to respect the law.
