Elderly John Carteret raises his niece Kathleen while remaining haunted by the memory of his beloved Moonyeen, who was killed on their wedding day by jealous Jeremiah Wayne. When Kathleen falls in love with Wayne’s son Kenneth, John tries to prevent history from repeating itself because of his hatred of the Wayne family. He finally blesses the young couple’s marriage, then dies peacefully in his garden as he sees Moonyeen waiting to lead him away.
