Blind pianist Peg Foster, now moving independently with her Seeing Eye dog Mara, begins giving music lessons and hopes to earn a teaching position at the McCary Institute of Music. Founder Dan McCary blocks the appointment solely because Peg is blind and even threatens to withdraw his financial support if the institute hires her. By chance, however, McCary hears Peg play beautifully at a pupil's home without realizing who she is or that she cannot see. After learning the truth, he admits that his assumptions were wrong and reverses his opposition, clearing the way for Peg's appointment. The job proves to Peg that she can support herself rather than be a burden, but she still hesitates over whether a blind woman has the right to marry Joe Hardy. Dr. Christian tells her that love, character and the life she and Joe can build together matter more than her blindness. Peg accepts Joe's proposal, with Mara ready to be part of the wedding.
