Merchant seaman David Parker awakens near Dover convinced he was in Calais only hours earlier and follows the contradiction to a secret wartime tunnel beneath the English Channel. The man exploiting the tunnel tries to kill David and traveler Emily Haydock to protect the secret, but they escape through it to France; once safely in Calais, they discover they cannot relocate the entrance because the sign they copied was only an air-raid-shelter marker.
