Can Do

A dramatized adaptation of William Bradford Huie's Can Do surveys the wartime work of the Navy Seabees through a veteran narrator looking back after discharge. The program moves through construction under fire, beach landings, mines, airstrips and the deaths of fellow workers rather than following one continuous plot. It emphasizes the Seabees' mixture of engineering and combat, including a doctor's decision to save a wounded Japanese prisoner, and closes with the narrator describing the Seabees' pride in building whatever the Navy needs wherever the war takes them.
