The Shooting of Wyatt King

After robbing the Copper Springs bank, outlaw Wyatt King is found badly wounded and insists that Britt was the man who outdrew him. Britt has never met King, but Wyatt privately admits that he would rather lose to the famous Six Shooter than confess that an ordinary gray-haired bank teller shot him while defending a horse. Britt identifies teller Jonas Pilgrim as the real gunman, though Jonas is equally eager to avoid the story because of his domineering wife's rules. When Wyatt later escapes and Britt returns him to jail, Britt arranges for Jonas to be sitting watch when the posse comes back, leaving the town convinced that the unassuming teller single-handedly recaptured the outlaw.
