Aunt Emma

After her husband dies and her children leave home, Britt's Aunt Emma comes to Powder Creek convinced that both she and her wandering nephew need a household to run. Britt tries to adapt to domestic life but quickly realizes he is miserable being fussed over and cannot abandon the range. Local storekeeper Ethan is fond of Emma but stays back because he thinks she is sacrificing herself for Britt, so Britt announces he is leaving and pushes Ethan to propose. Emma accepts, revealing that she had already recognized Britt could never be domesticated and that Ethan is exactly the sort of man who enjoys being looked after.
