Pierre, the French governor's seemingly idle son, secretly leads oppressed desert tribes as the masked Red Shadow. Margot is drawn both to Pierre and to the daring outlaw without knowing they are the same man, while Pierre's own father is determined to destroy the Red Shadow. Pierre refuses a fight that would betray the people he protects and is cast into the desert, but his identity is eventually uncovered. He stages the Red Shadow's disappearance, wins his father's respect, and reunites with Margot, who discovers that the two men she loved were one and the same.
