A record-shop mystery draws Nick and Nora into the deaths around musician Martin Curtis and a frightened young woman named Pat. Someone has manipulated threatening letters, guns and a staged confrontation; Nick proves Oliver engineered the scheme, using blanks to make Pat believe she had killed and then murdering the real victims himself.
