Shayne is drawn into a family poisoned by years of hatred after Mark Sanderson becomes convinced someone is trying to kill him. Deaths and poisoned brandy point back to patriarch Gregory Lawson, whose malice was arranged to keep reaching his heirs even after his own death, while lawyer Holmesby knows the will leaves him everything if the family is wiped out and tries to keep Shayne from disturbing the plan. Fingerprint evidence on the poisoned containers finally breaks the scheme.
