A woman hires Shayne to learn why her husband Dick Kenny is staying out at night, but the trail leads to blackmail rather than another woman. Kenny is murdered and ballistics point to Shayne's own gun even though it was traveling through the mail; Shayne proves the bullets were first fired through his gun and then reused through a larger smooth bore, exposing Jasper and Judith de Vaal's blackmail-and-murder conspiracy. This original dated recording is preserved separately from the later 1949 version.
