Melody Ranch – Four Leaf Clover

Gene opens with 'I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover' before a story about a dangerous livestock disease spreading into the cattle of Chief Silver Eagle's community. The chief rejects Gene's warning and modern veterinary methods, trusting traditional protection instead, so Gene seeks help from the chief's college-educated son Charlie. Charlie tries to bridge the two viewpoints but becomes gravely ill after eating meat from an infected steer; with a fever around 105 degrees his heart briefly stops and the medicine man believes he has died. A doctor gives Charlie an emergency injection and revives him, giving the chief direct evidence of the value of modern medicine while the broadcast returns to music.
