After opening music and vacation comedy, Gene tells the story of a young man, Eddie, who seems to straighten out but is secretly drawn back into crime by older ex-con Riley Curtis. The pair steal an ,000 payroll and retreat to an abandoned mine, where Riley plans to kill Gene with dynamite. Eddie turns against Riley and pulls the fuse in time to save Gene; he receives three years for his part while Curtis gets ten, and a later letter says Eddie has finally gone straight for good.
