Gene opens with 'Dixie Cannonball' before recalling how he took a job with Mark Gentry, a rancher being squeezed by powerful banker Red Watson and ordered to pay ,000 almost immediately or lose his property. Gene uses his reputation with a Star City cattle buyer to obtain a ,000 cash advance against Gentry's herd, allowing Gentry to pay the bank. When bank man Steve Nolan is later found dead, Watson's men try to frame Gentry for the killing. Gene exposes the setup by showing Watson and the sheriff knew details they should not have known, then lets a United States Marshal listening by telephone hear their admissions and arrests them.
