Melody Ranch – Bloom Is on the Sage 2

Gene opens with 'When the Bloom Is on the Sage' and later receives a letter from his friend Steve Williams asking to borrow ,000. The letter contains a false memory of a hunting trip they never took, so Gene sends a cashier's check while investigating and discovers that another man is collecting Steve's registered mail. Steve has actually been held by Joe Conway, who gambled away money belonging to the ranch owner and forced Steve to write the request when the owner announced his return. Gene notices the deliberately capitalized words 'every,' 'six' and 'words,' reads every sixth word as a hidden message giving Steve's location, frees him and exposes Conway's scheme.
