Three escaped convicts from New Caledonia flee on a raft with a native guide, but thirst, liquor and mutual distrust turn the fugitives against one another. By the time a contracted schooner finds them, the three convicts have killed or outwitted each other and are dead, while the disregarded fourth man survives with fresh water hidden inside the raft and quietly sails back toward home.
