Casting the Runes

Scholar Edward Dunning rejects a paper by the sinister Karswell and soon learns that Karswell uses a runic curse to mark enemies for death. With help from the brother of a previous victim, Dunning secretly returns the cursed paper to Karswell just before Karswell leaves for France; Dunning survives the appointed day, while Karswell is killed by a mysterious falling stone at a cathedral.
