Former star aerialists Benning and Brown come to Dr. Christian with progressive weakness, dizziness and failing grip that have reduced them from the big time to a small circus. He warns them not to perform until the illness is understood, but they go on anyway and one falls from the trapeze. At the ring Dr. Christian notices clown Jojo drop a small bottle and connects it with the performers' rope-burned bare hands. Testing the equipment reveals that their trapeze ropes have been repeatedly dosed with curare, slowly poisoning the men through contact. Jojo confesses that he trained Benning and Brown, then grew bitter when they became stars while an injury ended his own aerial career. His elaborate revenge had been to destroy them gradually while pretending to remain their loyal friend.
