An automobile accident leaves accomplished young musician Peg Foster blind, and the pity of her mother and fiance Joe Hardy soon makes her feel helpless and incapable of the life she had planned. Dr. Christian argues that their loving dependence is doing more harm than the blindness itself and persuades Peg to attend the Seeing Eye school in Morristown, New Jersey. When the training becomes difficult and Peg wants to quit, he deliberately challenges her pride until she stays. She returns home independently with her guide dog Mara, able to travel on her own and ready to resume the active life, music and future she feared she had lost.
