John Dehner was one of network radio's most versatile character actors and one of its finest western leads. Before acting became his profession, he worked in animation at Walt Disney Studios and in broadcasting as an announcer and news editor. His station's coverage of the 1945 United Nations conference contributed to a Peabody Award. Dehner became a constant presence in radio drama, appearing in Gunsmoke, Escape, Suspense and scores of other programs as villains, officials, gunfighters and sophisticated authority figures. In 1958 he starred as J. B. Kendall, an English correspondent traveling the American West, in Frontier Gentleman. Later that year he became Paladin in the radio adaptation of Have Gun—Will Travel, which ran through 1960. Dehner's intelligence, precision and dry restraint distinguished both roles. He also sustained a busy film and television career, often playing polished antagonists and complex supporting characters.
Only program relationships already supported by the Golden Radio Hour catalog are shown.
