Governess Violet Hunter accepts a strangely lucrative post at Copper Beeches where she must cut her hair, wear a blue dress and sit where she can be seen from outside. Holmes realizes the Rucastles are using her to impersonate Mr. Rucastle's imprisoned daughter and deceive the young woman's suitor. Hunter helps uncover the locked West Wing, the daughter escapes, and Rucastle's own savage dog turns on him when the scheme collapses.
