American correspondent Gwen Dew is trapped in Hong Kong when Japan attacks in December 1941. She lives through the siege, surrender and months of internment marked by hunger, brutality and humiliation, while continuing to observe her captors as a reporter. Colonel Tada even summons her for an interview in which he boasts about Japan's ambitions. After seven months, Dew is included in a civilian prisoner exchange and sails toward freedom, ending her account by reminding listeners that many Allied prisoners remain behind.
