A documentary-style dramatization of Willard Waller's The Veteran Comes Back examines the social problems awaiting American servicemen returning from war. Through staged testimony from veterans of earlier conflicts, scenes of unemployment and crime, and the voice of a contemporary G.I., the program argues that neglect, bitterness and economic insecurity can make returning veterans a danger to themselves and society. It closes with a call for jobs, housing, education, medical care and social security rather than empty praise or bonuses alone.
