A dramatization of Quentin Reynolds' The Curtain Rises follows the correspondent from another departure overseas through Allied campaigns in Russia, North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Reynolds is especially struck by American soldiers in their first major combat, describing both their toughness and their restraint toward civilians and prisoners. After witnessing the costly fighting in Sicily and at Salerno, he returns home warning Americans against complacency: the campaigns so far were only the prelude, and the difficult invasion of German-held Europe still lies ahead.
