Using George K. Pratt's Soldier to Civilian as its guide, this dramatization follows returning veteran Ross as he discovers that coming home does not instantly restore the life he imagined overseas. His family treats him as fragile, his relationship with Christine strains under changed expectations, and difficulties finding satisfying work leave him frustrated and isolated. At a town meeting, Ross explains that veterans need useful jobs, independence, patience and ordinary common sense more than pity, parades or permanent hero treatment, framing readjustment as a problem civilians and veterans must solve together.
