A Christmas-season dramatization based on Kenneth Gould's Scapegoats in History and Gustavus Myers' History of Bigotry in the United States surveys the recurring use of persecuted groups as targets for fear and social blame. Beginning with Herod and moving through witch trials, anti-Catholicism, anti-Irish prejudice, antisemitism and discrimination against other minorities, the program argues that fabricated accusations allow societies to redirect economic and political frustrations toward innocent people. It closes by rejecting scapegoating as contrary to both democratic justice and the religious ideals associated with Christmas.
