A dramatization of the final voyage of the troop transport Dorchester follows Army chaplains George Fox, Alexander Goode, Clark Poling and John Washington as they minister to soldiers of different faiths aboard ship. When the Dorchester is torpedoed near Greenland, panic spreads as men struggle for lifeboats and life jackets. The four chaplains help others to safety and each gives his own life jacket to a soldier who has none. Witnesses later remember seeing the chaplains praying together on the slanting deck as the ship sinks beneath them.
