Thicker Than Water

Britt meets wandering gambler Gus Proctor, who is returning after years away to a family he barely knows, only to learn that his wife Janet has died and their son Ted is being raised by Janet's sister Amy. Ted quickly idolizes the glamorous father he had been told was dead and decides to run away with Gus and become a gambler himself. Realizing what his example is doing, Gus deliberately lets himself be exposed as a poker cheat so the boy will reject that life and stay with Amy. Ted abandons the plan to run away, while Amy later marries the dependable Fred Baker, who becomes a steady father figure to him.
