Myra Barker

Britt meets the independent Myra Barker after she borrows Scar, and the two agree to keep each other company so friends will stop trying to marry them off. Their practical arrangement turns into genuine love and Britt proposes, but Myra doubts either of them is ready to give up a wandering life. She tests him with a false story that a sheriff needs his help, and Britt realizes that even if he married her he would still be pulled toward the next call for adventure. Remembering how his restless father left his mother lonely, he rides away rather than risk doing the same to Myra.
