Melody Ranch – Idaho

Following the opening song 'Idaho,' Gene investigates why cattle on young Betty Carson's ranch are mysteriously dying. Dead grass beside the ranch's salt blocks leads to laboratory tests showing that the blocks were poisoned with arsenic made tasteless in the salt. Gene discovers that Betty's guardian, Uncle Dan Carson, has been pretending to be crippled; he is poisoning the herd to force a sale before Betty turns twenty-one because a new railroad spur will make the property highly valuable. A distinctive footprint from Dan's leg brace helps expose the deception, and his attempt to silence Gene and Betty ends with him being taken for prosecution.
