Gene opens with 'Hair of Gold' and later recalls finding Pedro Chavez mortally shot in Redstone Canyon. Pedro manages to say 'Ringo,' leading Gene and Pat to the abandoned Ringo mine, where someone knocks down timbers in an attempt to trap and kill them; Champion helps bring rescuers to the site. Records show Pedro held the old mining claim, and ore samples reveal that he had discovered uranium. Gene then exposes attorney Ransom, whom Pedro had consulted about the claim, as the man who murdered Pedro to steal the mine and tried to kill Gene and Pat to hide the crime.
