World-weary traveler Reeser reaches Bizerte searching for a place where there is no struggle. A blind beggar leads him through a mysterious wall into a seemingly perfect world where every need is met, love is effortless and nothing resists him. Reeser gradually realizes that perfection has eliminated challenge, individuality, effort and meaningful choice, so he rejects it and returns to the ordinary world. Back in Bizerte he discovers that what seemed like a brief experience in the perfect place has cost him a full year.
