Ventriloquist Tomkins insists that his dummy Toby is a separate, jealous personality and claims the dummy drove him to shoot another man. While authorities debate whether Tomkins has split into two personalities, Toby is returned to his cell; Tomkins fights with the dummy and smashes it, but emerges still delusional, declaring that Tomkins is dead and that he is finally free to pursue the woman he loves.
