Carnival worker Johnny Allison sees a chance to steal a wealthy American tourist's ,000 letter of credit, disables the Ferris wheel to strand the man high above the midway, then forges his identity and withdraws the money. His drunken associate Joey demands a share and Allison kills him, then his girlfriend Lily rejects both the stolen fortune and Allison's endless promises. Violence follows again, and Allison flees through the carnival's Hall of Mirrors, surrounded by distorted reflections of himself as his scheme collapses into murder, fear and self-confrontation.
