Judy insists she has nothing suitable to wear to the school dance and demands a new dress, while her father refuses to reward what he sees as spoiled behavior. The standoff spreads through the whole family until Judy finally recognizes how selfish she has been and decides to return the new dress, choosing instead to attend in one Oogie has already seen.
