Vincent Price

Vincent Price brought elegance, intelligence and a sly sense of humor to stage, film, television and radio. Educated in art history before pursuing acting, he worked with Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre and built a screen career long before becoming a horror-film icon. On radio, Price is most closely associated with Simon Templar in The Saint. From 1947 into 1951, his polished voice and playful delivery made Templar sophisticated without weakening the character's appetite for danger. Price also appeared in Suspense, Escape, Lux Radio Theatre and many other dramatic programs, where his precise diction could suggest romance, menace or irony. His later films, including House of Wax and the Edgar Allan Poe cycle directed by Roger Corman, made him internationally recognizable. Beyond acting, he was a serious art collector, lecturer and author. His radio performances reveal the range behind the famous screen persona.
